Middlesex County was especially hard hit. The National Weather Service issued the first-ever flash flood emergency for New York City Wednesday evening while the city was walloped with 7.19 inches of rain. The forecast is not welcome to some areas of New Jersey that had to deal with flooding from the remnants of Hurricane Henri less than 2 weeks ago.Īccording to the National Weather Service, as much as 4-8 inches of rain fell across much of the center of the state, with small pockets receiving 7-10 inches. The remnants of Hurricane Ida brought a record-breaking deluge to the northeastern U.S. "Significant flooding and flash flooding is probable Wednesday and Wednesday night, especially given that the ground is saturated from recent heavy rain events." "Widespread rainfall of 2 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible, from Tuesday night through Thursday across the region, with the highest amounts from the I-95 corridor north and west," the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey, said in an advisory. The remnants of this tropical system will continue its northeastward. Rain fell, heavy at times (mostly in southern and parts of central NH), through about daybreak on Thursday as the remnants of Ida made their closest pass overnight. The risk for flash flooding across most of New Jersey was classified as moderate through Thursday.Ī Gale Watch was posted for the Jersey shore, New York City, and the southern coast of Long Island. Ida will continue inland across Louisiana and into the mid-Mississippi Valley region while packing heavy rain and strong winds.
